Obie Marie McLendon

Marie was born on August 21, 1940 in Montezuma, Georgia, to Obie Price and Mary Louise Bush. In 1956 she married Harold Bowen. They had two children, John and Marc. After Harold and Marc’s death, she married Harry Lee McLendon in 1967 and he adopted John, and they had Charlotte.

Marie led a life devoted to her friends and family. She was a talented, creative person at heart and loved all types of creative outlets such as painting ceramics, intricate macramé, embroidery, sewing, and quilting.

Marie’s character was defined by a simple and pure generosity of spirit that kept her at the ready to provide a meal to a family in mourning or facing illness and to help her family in any way she could.

Marie was preceded in death by her father and mother Obie and Louise Bush; her first husband Harold Bowen and their son Marc Bowen; and by her husband Harry McLendon.

She will be missed by her son John (Marlene); her daughter Charlotte; her grandchildren Travis (Mindy), David, Price (Ashlyn) and Eva (Robert); and her great-grandchildren, Morgan, Payton, Mia, Abby, Nova and Axl.

Donations may be made in Marie’s memory to benefit Orange Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, who did an excellent job caring for mom. Donations may be made via paypal to [email protected] or given to a family member. Purchases will be made for the Center’s activity room to brighten the days of the residents there.

A funeral service for Marie will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
