Norman Kagan was born on April 21, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York. He was devoted to his family and was always involved in all aspects of their lives. His dedication to Rhoda, his wife of 74 years, was a priority. He was the rock of his family—the generous person who always was there for help in any way needed. Norman unconditionally loved his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. A focal point was their education, and he was an active contributor, ready to share his experiences and thoughts relative to their future goals. He especially looked forward to the holidays and celebrations when the entire family would be together.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy. Thereafter, in 1950, he began his career at Roux Laboratories where he eventually became President of the company. His family relocated to Jacksonville in 1970 to establish the Roux headquarters new location. In 1978, Roux was purchased by Revlon and he became Senior Vice President of the Professional Products Division. Norman continued in this position until his retirement. His business skills were such that his customers and employees stayed with him throughout his career. He had a great sense of humor and always knew what to say at the right time.
He was an athlete all his life and played college basketball at St. Johns University. He was a member of the team when they won the NIT Championship. Norman took up golf in Florida and took great pride in scoring two holes in one.
Norman was son to predeceased (Fannie and Joseph Kagan); brother to predeceased ( Irving Kagan); husband to Rhoda, father to Donna Buring , predeceased by his daughter Tricia Bettman (Jack Bettman ) and son, Gordon Kagan. He was Grandfather to : Seth bloom ( Gary Solomon );Dorian Bloom ( Troy Robison ); Jonathan Buring; Falyn Buring; Lance Buring . He was also Great Grandfather to Twyla Kagan Solomon-Bloom .
He was a supporter of the JCA, Jewish Federation, Jacksonville Jewish Center, and Hadassah .
A graveside funeral services will take place at the New Center Memorial Park , 200 E 43rd , Jacksonville, Fl 32206 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norman’s memory can be sent to the Jacksonville Jewish Center, Hadassah, or River Garden Hebrew Home.
