Nora Frances Bland Elder, 90, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on October 30, 2019. She was born in Cedar Crossing, Georgia on October 8, 1929. Nora graduated from Toombs Central High School and attended South Georgia State College. She was married to Colonel (ret) Wayne Thomas Elder in 1953, and enjoyed 64 years together before he passed away in January 2018.
Nora was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and had a life-long passion for genealogical research. She was particularly proud of her intensive research to trace and validate the lineage of several patriots in the Bland, Tippett, and Elder families--efforts that were published in a number of genealogical journals --and the assistance she was able to provide to junior researchers throughout the South.
Nora was survived by her two daughters, Melissa Ellen and Melanie Louise Elder, her grandson, Samuel Jacob Thomas Elder, her sisters Mary Alice Bland Anderson, Shirley Ann Bland, and Emily Nell Bland Rue, several loving nieces and nephews, and extended family still living in southern Georgia. Nora was predeceased by her husband and her sisters Vera Virginia (Ginny) Bland Bennett and Sammie Esther Bland Stanley.
Visitation at 2:00 PM and service at 3:00 PM will be held on November 6, 2019 at the Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Chapel in Jacksonville. The Rev. Dr. Pamela Hall, the eldest niece of Nora, will officiate. Nora will be buried at a later date beside her parents and sister Ginny at the Old Cedar Crossing Cemetery in Cedar Crossing, Toombs County, Georgia.
