Nida was born on December 11, 1958 to King Kee and Brigida C. King in Santiago City, Isabela,
Philippines.
Nida married Manuel Sy on November 23, 1994. Nida and Manuel went on and moved abroad
to Jacksonville, Florida. It was in Jacksonville, an unfamiliar place in an unfamiliar country, that
she began to build a life with her husband and late daughter, Maida Marie Sy. Nida was an
exemplary family member and human being. She embodied the greatest qualities: unending
love, strength of spirit, a sense of humor, generosity and kindness. She enjoyed spending time
with her husband in their home and gathering with her extended family during the holidays.
Nida’s greatest passion was cooking; she was a food enthusiast. She enjoyed sharing her
dishes with family, friends and her beloved Publix family. Nida was a devout Christian and
attended church services with her family and friends as often as she could.
Before retiring, Nida spent 17 years working for Publix. She took pride and was greatly
passionate about her work there. It was her home away from home. She became very well
known by local regulars. She was exceptional in her position; she exuded a vibrant and lively
personality and enjoyed engaging with everyone who came through her check out lane.
Nida was predeceased by her Father, King Kee; Mother, Brigida C. King; Daughter, Maida Sy;
her sister, Evelyn King and brother in law, Benjamin Burnsed. She is survived by her dear
husband, Manuel Sy; beloved sister, Elizabeth K. Chua; her brothers in law Ernesto Sy (Gina),
Cesar Sy (Rowena) and William Sy; sisters in law Carmelita Burnsed and Leticia Crusit (Roger)
and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish all the love and memories shared in the
coming years. Nida will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
