Muriel was born and grew up in Long Island, New York, the eldest of 5 children. She attended P.S. 127 elementary school in East Elmhurst, where she met her lifelong best friend, Lydia Miller. After graduating from P.S. 127, Muriel along with some of her friends applied for and were accepted at Julia Richman High School. Muriel opted to concentrate on commercial courses that would lead to her eventually becoming private secretary to the V.P. of manufacturing at the Mack Truck Corporation. Muriel was an avid reader from the time she was a girl growing up in New York. She loved socializing with friends and family. She also loved dancing, working with ceramics, making flower arrangements, and playing the organ.
Muriel met her soon-to-be-husband of 77 years, Edmond Ryan in 1939 through mutual friends. They were engaged in 1941 and married in June of 1942. Muriel became an Army bride when Edmond was drafted into the Army Air Corp. During the war they were stationed in Miami Beach where they started their family.
Muriel was predeceased by her beloved husband Edmond E Ryan, her sons-in-law George Gallavan and Jim Herig, as well as her brothers, Sister, and their spouses. Al and Peggy Peck, Bobby and Nora Peck, Joe and Betty Peck, and Doris and George Leslie. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Maureen Gallavan, Kathy Herig, Pat and Mark Levin, Tim and Debby Ryan, and Barbara and John Morris. Muriel is survived by seven grandchildren, Kelly and Tracy Gallavan, Leonard Beers (Lauren), Samantha and Russel Levin, Justin Peters (Jill), and Mhegan Kravit (Andrew). Muriel is also survived by her four great grandchildren, Ryan and Sophie Peters, and Hunter and Charles Kravit.
Muriel’s service will be Monday, June 3rd, 10am at St Joseph's Historic Church, 4214 Loretta Rd, Jacksonville, Fl 32223.
