Montelle Audrey Trammell (better known as Monty) was born on September 18, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Alma and Woodfin Trammell. She graduated from Miami Edison High School (1959), FSU (1963), and received a Masters from UF. Monty taught at Wesconnett, Grace Chapel, San Jose and Beauclerc Elementary and was Principal at San Pablo and Beauclerc Elementary. During her administrative years, she earned numerous awards including: Outstanding Teacher of the Year, Little Red Schoolhouse, and two Guinness World Records for student projects. After she retired, Monty became active as the President of the Lakewood Homeowners Association, The Salvation Army Auxiliary, and Jacksonville Humane Society. For several years she had a “Santa’s Mailbox" in her yard and answered neighborhood children’s letters to Santa. She was awarded an American flag for her dedication to the 101st Airborne Division Soldiers during the Iraqi War. She leaves to mourn her passing, many close relatives and friends. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. April 20th at Lakewood United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Graveside services to be held at a later date in Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Monty's honor to either the Jacksonville Humane Society or to the Salvation Army Auxiliary.
