Mildred T. Pye, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2020, at Diamond Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Green Cove Springs, Florida. She was born on October 13, 1927, in Blackshear, Georgia to Lawton Turner and Gussie (Davis) Turner. She was one of eight children. She married Robert L. Pye and had two daughters, Phyllis and Jensine. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Robert; her two children Phyllis Turner-Bryan and Jensine Bryan; her siblings Alton Turner (Jean), Annie Lee Bryant (Jay), Aline Dixon (Jack), Clara Lowery (Mack), Nell Elliot (Ron), Lawton Turner Jr. (Ida), Clarence Turner (Nancy).
She is survived by her grandchildren: Suzi Hollis (Daniel), Joshua Turner, Jennifer Alford (Chad), and Courtney Clark (Zach); her great-grandchildren: Hannah, Mikayla, Annalise, and Autumn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mildred loved the Lord and loved reading His Word every morning. She was taught how to read from the Bible by her husband, Robert. She loved using her gifts of cooking and sewing to serve the Lord. She was a long time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of West Jacksonville Baptist Church. She loved being around her family and friends.
A special thank you to Vitas Hospice for taking great care of Mildred for the last three years. She has been loved by so many nurses and their staff. A special thank you to Barbara Billman for the love and kind care of her for several years after the passing of her daughter, Phyllis, and her husband.
The family will gather on Friday, May 29, 2020 from 2:30 – 3:30pm for visitation at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. A private Graveside Service will immediately follow officiated by Pastor Rodney Kelly of West Jacksonville Baptist Church. Flowers may be delivered to the funeral home prior to visitation.
