Mildred Pearl Holton, 81, completed her journey here on Earth and entered into heaven on Friday, December 31st while surrounded by loved ones in the home she cherished. Mildred was born in Haughton, Louisiana, the daughter of Claude and Nellie Shockley. She attended high school there along with her siblings: Wilmer, Marie, Margie and Jimmy, and played on the basketball team.
Mildred married Jack Chester and settled in Bossier City, LA where she gave birth to four daughters. They lived happily until her husband was killed in a tragic accident. Mildred moved with her daughters to Jacksonville in 1955 to marry Andrew (Jack) Holton Jr. who she met and fell in love with while he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base.
Mildred retired from Metal Container Corporation and was a member of the United Steelworkers of America. She will be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her compassion, her wit, her love for gardening and as an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team. Most of all she will be remembered for her love of family and by the name that most knew her, simply “Nanny”.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Andrew J. Holton Jr., her brother Wilmer Shockley, her sister, Margie Posey, sons-in-law, Richard Bublitz and Joseph Cook, and her great-granddaughter, Kimberly Enlow.
