Mike graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 1965 and later served for the U.S. Air Force as a forward air traffic controller in the Vietnam War. After the war, Mike was a reservist Sergeant with the Duval County Road Patrol, prior to consolidation in Jacksonville until the late 1970’s. Mike then went to work for his future Father-in-law at Langley Oldsmobile where he met his future wife Kristy Langley Jenkins. The two married in 1982. Mike was active in local politics and a friend to many. Mike loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and his chocolate labs more than all else. Mike was an avid sportsman and conservationist. He enjoyed hunting and fishing both nationally and internationally with a special affinity for South Carolina, Texas, Namibia and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. After 25 years in the HVAC industry, Mike opened his own firm in December 2007. He loved getting up every day and going to the office.
Mike is pre-deceased by his parents Margaret and Harry, and his sister Susan Jenkins Register. He is survived by his loving wife, Kristy Langley, his brother Paul Gregory Jenkins (Lillian), sons Michael Augustus Jenkins Jr., David Augustus Jenkins, Alexander Bullock Jenkins (Allison) and daughter Amanda Jenkins Crist (Trey). Mike leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Trey Michael & Kaeli Jenkins, Harlie & Chloe Jenkins, Paige & Beau Crist, Alexander (Xander) Jenkins Jr. & Lukas Jenkins. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
A visitation & rosary will be held on Thursday 4/22 6-8pm at The Oaklawn Cemetery Event Lodge. 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jax., Fl 32207 A funeral Mass will be held Friday 4/23 at 2:00 PM at Bascilla of the Immaculate Conception, 121 E Duval St. Jax., Fl. 32202. Interment immediately following the Mass at Oaklawn Cemetery. Following the interment a Celebration of Life reception will be held at Epping Forest Country Club. All are welcome.
