He was born on May 12, 1951 in Columbus, GA and grew up in LaGrange, GA. Mike moved to Jacksonville, FL after high school. He graduated from UNF in 1979 with a degree in accounting. After attaining his CPA license he eventually opened his own firm, Hammock and Associates.
Mike was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Green Cove Springs, FL since 1988 where he served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was also an Elder, had served at the St. Augustine Presbytery and on many committees. He also served as the Chairman of the Board at Penney Farms Retirement Community and was on the Board at Thornwell Children’s Home, Clinton, SC.
Mike was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and season ticket holder. If he was able to go he was in Athens, GA every home game during football season. He also loved the Atlanta Braves and spent many a weekend in Atlanta at Turner Field.
Mike was the most giving and caring man. He loved his family and never met a stranger. He was a true Southern gentleman.
Mike is survived by his wife of 32 years, Evelyn; sons, Jason (Courtney), Scott (Theresa); daughter, Lauren (Chris); seven grandchildren, Avielle, Arya, Hezekiah, Josiah, Ariella, Carmella, and Kingston; brother, Dan Stewart (Sue); aunt, Ann Smith; Bill and Joan Gladney; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jay Hammock; mother, Sara Stewart; and grandmother Verna Arrington.
