A graduate of Paxon High School, Florida State University, and The University of Florida College of Law, Michael practiced law with Rogers Towers from 1977 until 1994 when he co-founded his own practice, Hedrick Dewberry Regan & Durant. In 2008, he returned to his Rogers Towers family. He specialized in commercial, health, and employment litigation, and served as an arbitrator and mediator. Michael was a past president of the Jacksonville Bar Association and the Blood Alliance, an adjunct professor at Florida Coastal School of Law and the University of North Florida, a certified federal mediator, an appointed Temporary Special Master in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Secretary and Treasurer of the Chester Bedell Inn of Court, a celebrated mentor to other attorneys, and a noted sartorialist and bow-tie enthusiast.
Michael is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Sherrill Hitzing Dewberry; their son, Michael P. Dewberry of Boston, MA; their daughter, Lisa Thrower, and son-in-law Monroe B. Thrower III of Atlanta, GA, and grandsons Monroe IV and Malcolm Thrower, who called him “Pops.” He will be greatly missed by all, including many more relatives and friends. Michael was a great lover of 20th and 21st century literature, photography, spicy food, pop music, gourmet cookbooks, and sports—particularly FSU football.
A memorial service will be held at eleven o’clock on Saturday, January 10th at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, 2137 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32207
