Michael Henry "Mikey" Charek departed this life unexpectedly at home April 15, 2024. Michael was born November 3, 1984 in Miami, Florida. He was the youngest child of Nicholas C. and Roswitha Charek. He was 39 years old.
Michael was an avid fisherman from the time he could walk. He spent many years fishing with his parents, friends, his grandfathers, his brother Nathan, and his cousins in South Florida and the Florida Keys and later in Saint Augustine, Florida and Jekyll Island, Georgia. Those memories were very special to him. He spoke of them often as the best time of his life.
Michael was a 2003 graduate of Bartram Trail High School, following which he attended Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville where he became a Florida Gators fan. He was also a loyal and dedicated Jacksonville Jaguars fan since their inaugural season in 1995. Michael was active in football, baseball, softball, and theatre, as well as water sports. He had a charming and effervescent personality.
Michael was preceded in death by his cousin Christopher Thomas, his grandfathers Michael Charek and Henry Edler (for whom he was named), his cousin Ashley Edler, grandmother Elise Edler, uncle Henry Edler, his aunt Eleonore Thomas, and his brother Nathan "Big Nate" Charek, with whom Mikey shared an inseparable bond.
Michael is survived by his loving and devoted parents Nicholas and Roswitha Charek, his special brother Jesse Charek, grandmother Ingeborg Charek, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as several lifelong and longtime friends.
