COMMANDER MICHAEL BRADY BOOTH, USN (ret.) Michael Booth – husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, patriot, seafarer and warrior – passed away peacefully on June 9, 2014 with his beloved wife and love of his life Gin Gin by his side. He was 70. Born August 19, 1943 in Olean, NY, to Virgil C. Booth and Elizabeth (“Betty”) Brady Booth, Michael grew up in the Buffalo area and graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1965. Shortly thereafter he entered the U.S. Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, and began a distinguished naval career that would take him, on a total of four ships, to 78 ports in 55 countries in 15 years. Before a serious injury abruptly ended his career in 1979, he’d served as Executive Officer on a Destroyer homeported in Mayport, emergency actions officer at the Alternate Emergency Command Center in Maryland, and had skippered a minesweeper on the treacherous rivers of Southeast Asia. His many decorations included the Republic of Viet Nam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross), the Joint Services Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. Michael was a talented photographer (particularly featuring his grandkids), and enjoyed reading, fishing, baseball, and, first and foremost, spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen “Gin Gin” Booth; two sons: Michael (Diana) Booth Jr. of Jacksonville and Patrick (Jenni) Booth of Odessa, FL; two stepsons: Roland (Doreen) Clark of Jacksonville, and Matt Clark of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren: Megan, Rachael, Michael III and James Booth of Jacksonville, Anna, Sarah and Emma Booth of Odessa, and Joshua and Caitlin Clark of Jacksonville; 3 brothers: Charles (Diane) Booth of Bridgeport, MI, Peter (Terry) Booth of Elma, NY, and Christopher (Patty) Booth of Florence, SC; two sisters: Martha (Tony) Viglietta of Manlius, NY, and Libby (Erik) Maeder of Colden, NY; aunt and uncle Joan and John Stetz of Waterloo, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Betty Booth. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida.
