Born in Philadelphia on June 18,1942 to Irish immigrants, Maureen Heaney was the youngest of five children and carried an unrelenting dedication to her heritage and family throughout her life. She met her husband, Bob Mickler, at an Irish dance club near Villanova University where Bob was attending law school. After graduation the couple got married and drove Maureen’s car to Bob’s hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Maureen would later recount that she cried the whole way down from the big city of Philly down to the “backwoods” of Jax. She would come to love her new home and the pioneer North Florida family that she became a part of. Maureen passed away unexpectedly in her home on the first day of fall, Sunday, September 22, 2024. Family and faith were Maureen’s priorities. She was a lifelong member of San Jose Catholic Church and a Dame, Grand Cross in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. She was a descendent of Irish healers and was a Anam Cara (soul friend) to those on their spiritual journey. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert O. Mickler, and siblings Ann McGee, Philip Heaney, Margie Heaney, and Terry Heaney. Maureen is survived by her sons, Bryan Mickler (Laura McKeithen) and Robert Mickler (Julie), and daughter, Kerri Megan Mickler Ira (Cliff), grandchildren, Grace and James Mickler, sisters-in-law, Lynn and Geri Mickler and Madeline Heaney as well as relatives throughout Pennsylvania and Ireland. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10:00 am at San Jose Catholic Church followed by an internment at Oaklawn Cemetery. Friends are encouraged to join the family at an informal gathering Sunday evening.
