Mary Elizabeth Young, 65, passed away on November 21, 2011. Born in Baltimore, MD to the late Roland Warren and Elizabeth Athey Cutcliffe, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mary grew up in Falls Church, VA graduating from Falls Church High School in 1964. She worked for the US Department of Commerce – NTIS retiring in September 1995. Mary and Leon moved to Jacksonville (Mandarin), FL November 1995.
Mary is a Life Time Member of the Girl Scouts USA where she was celebrating her 60th year as a girl and leader. She received her Curved Bar as a girl. The Curved Bar was the highest award a girl could earn at that time. She was the Leader of Cadette Troop 178 and Senior/Ambassador Troop 5. She will be missed by the girls and families of her troops as well as the girls and leaders of Mandarin Meadows Service Unit.
She was an avid doll collector. She loved being outdoors, especially camping. She loved all animals and she loved to read. She enjoyed cruising and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, H. Leon Young; son, Eric A. Cutcliffe; daughter, Robyn E. Moncure; and her beloved granddaughters, Lizz, Maggie and Darien.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3rd at Mandarin United Methodist Church, 11270 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223 with Rev. Deborah A. McLeod officiating.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to Girl Scouts of Gateway Council - Share Campaign, 1000 Shearer Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
