Mary Elizabeth Sandifer

On December 6th, 1923, Mary Elizabeth Newsom Sandifer also known as "Betty" was born in Brunswick, Georgia and then soon after relocated to Jacksonville, FL as a child. Betty obtained her high school diploma from Andrew Jackson High School, and then she attended Florida State College for Women. For many years she was a faithful member of the Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church. She was also an active member of the San Jose Ladies Golf Association and a lifelong member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Julian T. Newsom her husband of 41 years preceded her in death. She later went on and married her husband Norwood Sandifer of 11 years, who also preceded her in death. Then her daughter Nancy Elizabeth Lande preceded her in death just recently in 2020. She is survived by her sons, Julian Thomas Newsom, Jr. (Cindy) of Greenville, South Carolina and Walter E. Newsom of Jacksonville Beach and five beautiful grandchildren; Betsy Givens (Scott) of Atlanta, Katherine Lande of West Palm Beach, and Caroline Thomas (Matt), Molly Alleger (Rich), and Travis Newsom all of Jacksonville as well as six great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 6th, 2021 at 11:00am at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
