Mary Frances Ogburn went to heaven Thursday, December 12, 2013 In Jacksonville, FL. She was born May 4, 1928 in Warwick, Georgia to Berkley and Lucy Ogburn. Mary graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and went to work for Southern Bell. In 1945 she joined United States Cadet Nurses Corps and began training at St Vincent’s in Jacksonville, FL. Mary’s fiancé returned after two years of wartime duty in Europe and they married June 12, 1946. She then returned back to Southern Bell, received several promotions, and was the first women to hold the job of switchman. Later she was promoted to the position of central office foreman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Benjamin, daughter Anne Connors, and sister Wanda Parsons. Mary will be missed dearly by her son Charles Ogburn (Minnie); stepsons Bennie Ogburn (Barbara) and Donnie Ogburn (Louise); niece Donna Anderson (Philip) and their two children; as well as many precious grandchildren; great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. A visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 pm Monday, December 16, 2013 at West Meadows Baptist Church, 11711 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32221. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow the services in Riverside Memorial Park.
