Mary Elizabeth Nicol, born September 21, 1937, passed away peacefully on September 9th, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family several days before passing and up to the minute she took her last breath.
Mary was born in the hills of Tennessee (Mayland) and lived quite an interesting life prior to her enlisting in the Navy in 1957. She served in the Navy for two years, where she met the love of her life, William Werner Nicol, and married on June 21, 1958, in San Diego, California. After living in California and Hawaii throughout their lifetime, they moved to Neptune Beach, Florida in 1975. She has been a member of the South Jacksonville Church of Christ since 1975. Mary helped run the family donut shop, Dip-n-Sip, in Atlantic Beach for many years. She also worked for Eckerd Drugs for 8 years prior to retiring.
Over the past several years, Mary took an interest in travelling, writing books and painting. Of all the places she travelled (Spain, Italy, France, Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii), she fell in love with Italy and talked about it up until she could no longer talk. She enjoyed watching the old westerns on TV and became a big fan of bull riding.
She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, William Nicol, a son, William Jeffrey Nicol and three daughters, Debbie (Chuck), Donna (Todd) and Janet. Mary also has 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Survived by siblings Billy Rogers, Florence Scoggins and Freddie Rogers. Predeceased by her mother Ruth Katherine Hill (Allen) and brother Ed Rogers.
A visitation and service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 10:00 (visitation) and 11:00 (service) at Corey-Kerlin Funeral home at 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. 32211, with the burial following at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL.
