She was born August 1, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Elmer and Elma Freeland. Mary Ellen graduated from Paxon High School and was married to David Gene Nelson on October 20,1956. Mary Ellen had a career in office administration for Prudential, Ramsey's Office Supplies, Tire Centers Inc., and Old Plank Daycare. She had a passion for reading, gospel music, her grandchildren and camping. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, David Nelson, and her sister Glenda Wyatt.
Mary Ellen is survived by her four daughters, Susan Needham (John), Terri Locke, Vera Kinlaw (Scott), and Danna Reeves (Rob); grandchildren, David Hudson, Lisa Hudson, Ashley Locke, Amber Locke, Josh Reeves, Nelson Locke, Taylor Kinlaw, Lexi Reeves, Hannah Kinlaw; great granddaughter, Alena Hudson; brother, Jim Freeland, and many other loving family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 2pm at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32205. Graveside services will follow at 3pm at Riverside Memorial Park.
