Mary Kathryn Kline Mowry of Jacksonville, Florida, went to be with God on February 25, 2023, at 2:35 p.m. Mary was born on June 10, 1929, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Ina Frances Bridwell and Albert Kline.
Mary was a descendent of Jacksonville Mayor Edward Stephen Hopkins and the founder of Titusville,
Henry Theodore Titus. She was a true Southern Lady. Her father owned a home and property on Old St. Augustine Road in Jacksonville where she was raised. She attended Vashti Methodist Boarding School in Thomasville, Georgia, and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. Mary attended one year at Florida Women’s College in Tallahassee. She then decided to pursue a career in nursing and enrolled in the Riverside Hospital Nursing School in Jacksonville and became a registered nurse in 1950. She worked at several hospitals in Northeast Florida. She married Henry Nelson Mowry on January 31, 1954, at Peel United Methodist Church in downtown Jacksonville.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She had five children: Kathryn Genevera Mowry, Theresa Mandane Mowry Collier (Arthur), Melanie Frances Mowry Etters (Eric), Laura Marylyn Mowry Gold (Keith), and Henry Pierce Mowry (Angie). She also loved being a grandmother to Cole Collier, Eli Jenkins, Rutger and Henry Rafferty Mowry, and Titus Mowry Etters. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Albert Kline, daughter Kathryn, and grandson John Momcilovich.
She began her 50-year career in antiques with her mother, Ina Ward, at Ina’s Antiques in Avondale. Later, she operated Ortega Village Antiques until 2019. She and her husband lived in their Avondale home for 58 years.
Mary was an avid Florida Gator football fan and attended games for many decades. Mary was a dedicated Methodist. She attended Riverside Park United Methodist Church. She was an active member of Ladies of the Nile while Henry was part of the Jacksonville Shriners. Mary and Henry traveled the world for 30 years seeing many wonderful sites and making fabulous memories. Mary maintained her nursing license until she was 88 years old. She was loved by her family and anyone who knew her.
A graveside service will be held at noon on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Greenlawn Cemetery located at 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
