Margie Thompson Rosier Grier, 88, of Jacksonville, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed through Heaven’s Gates into Jesus’ arms on Sat., Nov. 29, 2014, due to a rare-type cancer. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter Ann Rosier (Larry) Floyd of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Kevin D. (Nancy) Floyd, Green Cove Springs, FL and Karin F. (Michael) White, Newberry, SC; two step-grandchildren, Drew and Morgan Wingate; three great-grandchildren, Leanna, Lauren and Clifford White; step-son, Tom (Diane) Grier, Rossville, GA and two step-daughters, Linda Grier, Norcross, GA and Gail Grier, Roswell, GA; also several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Earl Thomas Grier; daughter, Margaret Jan Rosier; her parents, Marvin L. and Sarah Griffis Thompson and her siblings, Gerald, Howard, Dorothy Thompson Johns and JoElla Thompson Rowe. Margie, born on Nov. 12, 1926, was raised in Lawtey, Bradford Co., FL. She was Valedictorian of her 9th Grade and 12th Grade Graduating Classes. She taught school and was a Principal at age 20 in the Rising Community of Starke, FL. Later she taught at the Lawtey Elementary School. After moving to Jacksonville 1950, she began working at Consolidated Agencies Insurance Company, eventually owning the business. After retirement she and Earl owned Margie’s Cards & Gifts in Five Points. She was a gifted teacher and tutor. She taught Sunday School for many years at Woodstock Park Baptist Church and Park Lane Baptist Church, was active in Training Union and a leader in the WMU. She learned to play the piano at age 70. She crocheted, tatted, composed songs, did beautiful calligraphy work and was an outstanding cook. She began writing poetry at an early age and wrote her last poem, praising God for His goodness, while in the hospital. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Community Hospice Unit, St. Vincent’s Hospital, for their loving care. The viewing will be Wed., Dec. 3, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jax, FL. The funeral service will be Thurs., Dec. 4, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home and will be conducted by Rev. Bobby C. Anderson and Rev. Ray Mayfield.
