Born and raised in Middlesboro, Kentucky, as the youngest of 7 children. Graduated high school in Middlesboro, and was known for writing the 6 Million Dollar Man (Lee Majors, aka Harvey Lee Yeary) up for talking when she was made class monitor in the teacher’s absence. Worked at the Pentagon following graduation, and was the boss of all 5 sides. Briefly worked as a Brewery Chief (not really) before traveling the world for many years as the spouse of a military member. Locations included Germany, Japan, and Panama. Was employed as an administrative assistant in many duty locations. Following retirement, she enjoyed attending church, owning cats, following her children’s exploits, and eating ice cream.
She was preceded in death by each of her siblings, Fred Whited, Edward (Buddy) Whited, Wallace Whited, Bonnie Whited, Betty Bumgarner, and Norma McAchren. She is survived by her children, Sallie Starling and Greg Zills. She is also survived by nieces and nephew Mark Bumgarner, Ann Hearn, Jennifer Bilbrey, and Michele Dunn.
We are grateful for the care provided by the medical staff at Baptist Medical Center South in January 2022.
She was a blessing to have for a mother, the sweetest person you could know. You are and have always been an angel, Mom. We love you forever.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hgmandarin.com for the Zills family.
