Margaret "Maggie" Salem (81), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and sister-in-law passed September 28, 2013 peacefully surrounded by her family. Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 21, 1932 and raised in Ramallah, Palestine, she moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1951. She was an active member of the Ramallah Club of Jacksonville, the Confederate Point Garden Circle and a loyal parishioner at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. She was a remarkable woman whose faith in God and selfless devotion to others were an inspiration to her family and the entire Arab American community. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Kamel, her parents Jameel and Hilaneh Bateh, her sisters Jamileh and Salwa, brother Bassem, and her brothers-in-law Essa, Bader and Zacky Salem. She is survived by her sister Mary Batteh and brother Albert (Janan) Bateh, her brother-in-law Salem Salem and sisters-in-law Najla Salem, Nabila Salem, Leila Bateh and Suad (Farhat) Ziadeh, and her sons George (Rhonda), Robert (Dounia), Abraham (Susan), and eight grandchildren, James, Jihan (Jonathan), Laila, Sarah, Sabrina, Mark, Christian and Kylie Salem. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville. FL 32205. A public visitation begins at 5:00 pm with a Rosary service commencing at 6:30 pm, Thursday October 3, 2013 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 1773 Blanding Blvd. Jacksonville. FL 32210. Funeral service and Mass will commence at 11:00 am Friday October 4, 2013 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with procession to and interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, Father Jose Kulathinal officiating.
