On May 24, 2024, Margaret “Sissy” McNatt Moore of Jacksonville, FL died peacefully at home. She was 85.
Born in Jacksonville on November 10, 1938, Sissy was the daughter of the Hon. John and Margaret McNatt and devoted sister of John Mathews McNatt. She graduated from Julia Landon High School and Emory University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Following college, she returned to Jacksonville and started her career as a teacher, later earning a master’s in education from the University of North Florida. Her many community contributions include leading the high school equivalency program at The Bridge of Northeast Florida and serving as president of The Bolles School Parent Association and Southside Women’s Club.
Sissy married James Richard Moore in 1961 and, following a brief time in Sarasota, settled not far from her childhood home in San Marco where they lived for more than 50 years. A charter member of Southside United Methodist Church, she taught Bible Studies and served as church administrator.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Sissy is survived by her three sons, James Richard Moore Jr (Deborah), John Light Moore (Tina), and William Mathews Moore (Cathi), as well as seven grandchildren including Kyle (Amy), Trevor, Turner, Kailyn, James Richard III, Brooke and Sara.
A graveside service and reception will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, on Friday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. Durwood Foshee, Superintendent, Northeast District at Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church will be the funeral officiant.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to caregivers from CJ’s Healing Hands with special recognition to Dawn and LaGretta, who cared for Sissy and her husband for six years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Community Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation or the McNatt Scholarship Fund at Southside Methodist Church.
