Margaret (Anne) Wolfe Hawk was born on February 1, 1936, in Shelby Alabama. She passed from this earth into the arms of our Lord on June 22, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida. Endlessly curious, assertive, and analytical from the outset, Anne was always interested in learning and testing the boundaries of thinking across language, art, mathematics, psychology, and the natural sciences. She was an avid reader and had a quick mind which allowed her to debate and often best her fellow scholars on nearly any topic.
Anne attended college at Auburn University where she met the love of her life and future husband Cecil (Coleman) Hawk. They were married for more than sixty years before his death in 2020. A lifelong learner, she completed her Bachelor of Education from Jacksonville University, and years later earned her Master of Education from the University of North Florida, majoring in Administration and Supervision.
Over the course of her career, she had a positive impact on thousands of children in Duval County, first as a teacher, and in later years as an administrator. As a high school English teacher, she challenged her students to be the best they could be, and introduced innovative and immersive teaching methods that encouraged her students to bring the classics to life through plays and film adaptations. When she transitioned to school administration, she became a highly successful grant writer which resulted in the requisition of countless dollars of federal and state funding and additional resources for the Duval County Public School system. Additionally, she worked as a researcher and evaluator for the effectiveness of programs such as Title I, further cementing her positive mark on the lives of children in Jacksonville.
After retirement she and her husband Coleman enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They also both enjoyed art exhibits, the theatre, and the Jacksonville Symphony. She was also a dedicated member of the Pilot club of Jacksonville and South Jacksonville Presbyterian church.
Anne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is pre-deceased by her husband Coleman Hawk as well as her parents Joseph Marion Wolfe and Mary Estelle Wolfe. She is survived by her son David Coleman (Linda) Hawk, daughter Robin Anne (Mark) Jamison, brother Joseph Marion (Karin) Wolfe Jr., her nieces, and loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
