Margaret Mary Conte, age 94, passed away December 30, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. Margaret was born on April 3, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Edward Francis Walsh and Caroline Roettinger Walsh. She was a registered nurse, and also owned and operated an Italian restaurant along with her husband, John P. Conte. Margaret enjoyed gardening, antiques, ceramics, pottery and painting. Margaret also had a love for shopping and enjoyed traveling with her sisters. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who will be deeply and sorely missed by her family.
Margaret graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in Poughkeepsie, New York on June 7, 1945. During the end of World War II Margaret was awarded a three-year Nursing scholarship to Memorial Hospital of Albany New York. She was pinned a Registered Nurse on September 1, 1948. She won the Arthur M. Dickinson Award For the Most Proficient In Gynecological Nursing and The Arthur B. VanLoon Award For The Highest Standing in The Theory And Practice of Surgical Nursing.
In 1971 Margaret and her family moved to Florida where she returned to Nursing. She went back college and graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in June of 1979.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Caroline Walsh, and her husband, John P. Conte. She is survived by her children Patrick Conte (Debbie), Carolyn Weber (Tom), John Conte (Sue), and Edward Conte (Patty); sisters Betty Gloede, Caroline Button, and Joan Baratta; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, Jacksonville, FL, is serving the family locally. Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie, NY is serving the family with committal services at St. Peter's Cemetery on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 10 AM for Mrs. Conte.
