Marcia Arlene Jawitz, age 85, passed away at her home on Sunday, September 22, 2024, following a sudden illness. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Marcia is survived by her daughters Carole Coplan, Susan Coplan Bonesz, and Lisa Coplan-Gardner (Darin Gardner); grandchildren Melanie Bonesz, Austin Gardner, and Harper Gardner; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Marcia was a second-generation Jacksonville native, and is preceded in death by her parents Alex Falis and Rita Falis (Zaslow), and her younger brother Marvin Falis. Marcia graduated from Landon High School in 1957, where she was in the Glee club and a majorette. She attended the University of Florida and then Florida Junior College before marrying Alvin Coplan, her husband of many years. Family was the cornerstone of Marcia’s life. Her homes in Jacksonville and in Atlantic Beach, then Neptune Beach were the center of frequent family dinners for the extended family. Marcia was also entrepreneurial and started her own mortgage brokerage company, as well as a community newspaper. She was a terrific social organizer, enjoyed playing golf, and planned numerous social events at the Epping Forest Yacht Club and the Ponte Vedra Club. Marcia was married to Melvin Jawitz from 1991 until his passing in September 2000. Their life together was among the happiest of her years, with international travel, fun, laughter, and adventure. Marcia supported the military and organized multiple “support our troops” fundraisers and awareness initiatives in Jacksonville and at the beaches. In Marcia’s final years, she remained living at her condominium overlooking the intracoastal waterway with her beloved pets Bella, her miniature poodle, and Darcy, her Abyssinian cat. She loved watching the dolphins and birds on her patio with her pets and never missed watching the Jacksonville Jaguars. A graveside funeral service will take place on Friday, September 27th at 10:30 AM, at New Center Memorial Park (New Center Cemetery), the entrance located at 200 E. 43rd Street off of Main Street (directions).
