He enjoyed many interests including photography, astronomy, Ham radio, playing piano & guitar and diverse technologies. His job took the family to Peachtree City, Ga., New Orleans, La., Omaha, Ne., and finally to Jacksonville.

Heslin led the family & a passionate group of parishioners to build a new church, get involved in pro-life matters & renew their spirituality with a movement called Cursillo. He was a convert to the Catholic faith & had a special place in his heart for the Blessed Mother. It is within this environment Steve was the father figure to two sons, Chris and Brian.
