Luis Felipe Figueroa, 50, passed away Sunday December 17, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. Command Sergeant Major Luis F. Figueroa was a native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He entered the U.S. Army on March 8, 1988, attending basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and advanced individual training at Fort Lee, VA. He graduated as a Stock Control and Accounting Specialist MOS 76P. His overseas tours include one tour in Germany, and a tour in Saudi Arabia, Desert Storm/Shield/Liberation of Kuwait.
Command Sergeant Major Figueroa’s previous assignments include Command Sergeant Major Syracuse Recruiting Battalion, Syracuse, NY; Operations Sergeant Major, Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion, Lakehurst, NJ; S-3 NCOIC, Dallas Recruiting Battalion, Dallas, TX; First Sergeant, Jacksonville, Recruiting Company, Jacksonville, FL; First Sergeant, Daytona Beach Recruiting Company, Daytona Beach, FL and Senior Guidance Counselor, Jacksonville Military Processing Station, Jacksonville, FL.
Command Sergeant Major Figueroa’s military education includes all Military NCOES to include the Sergeant Majors Academy, First Sergeant’s Course, Army Recruiting School, Station Commander’s course, and the Operations and Guidance Counselor’s courses. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (5 OCL), Army Commendation Medal (4 OCL), Army Achievement Medal (3 OCL), Good Conduct Medal (8), National Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Award (4 awards), Saudi-Arabia Liberation of Kuwait Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Driver/Pistol/Rifle Badge, Gold Recruiter Patch, Army Recruiter Ring and the Glen E. Morrell Recruiting Medal. He is survived by his wife Amelia, his 3 children and 2 grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 9:00am-11:00am Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32250. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:30pm Thursday at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills, 850 St Johns Bluff Road N., Jacksonville, FL 32250.
