Born on September 19th, 2015 in Jacksonville, FL, Lucy Donmoyer, aged 8, passed away peacefully on September 26th, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was a cherished daughter, a treasured sister, and a beloved granddaughter.
Lucy is survived by her parents Jessica Donmoyer and Jordan Donmoyer, and her little sister Charlotte Grace, 4 years old. She also leaves behind her pups, Fitz and Finn, and her hermit crab, Crabaliscious.
Lucy had an amazing ability to smile through the bad days and bring joy to everyone around her no matter what was going on inside her little body. She also somehow had the magic of making whomever she was with feel like they were the only one who mattered in her world.
Lucy was diagnosed with High-Risk Neuroblastoma in April of 2020, and her passion to be cancer free and her willingness to fight never wavered. She was treated mainly at Nemours and Wolfson Children’s Hospital with one big trip up to Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City, NY for surgery, and she touched the hearts of everyone that cared for her, whether it was her bright smile early in the morning, a perfectly timed Dad joke, a game of Zingo, a visit to Lucy’s Luscious Nails, the list goes on. She was a light no matter what she was facing.
To honor Lucy’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 8th from 3pm to 6pm at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, in The Ballroom. Friends and family are invited to come celebrate the amazing life of Lucy that we were so lucky to be part of.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her honor to any of the organizations that have helped her and her family throughout her journey: Fourth and Gold (funding research for pediatric cancer research), Dreams Come True (helping ill children in the community experience the hope and joy of a dream come true), The Jay Fund (providing financial, emotional and practical support to families battling childhood cancer), V for Victory (provides services and resources at no cost to local families who are battling cancer), Child Cancer Fund (fund the child life specialist position at Nemours, provide financial assistance for families, and offer emotional and practical support to the entire family affected by childhood cancer). Donations to these organizations will help them continue to spread happiness and joy to other kids fighting pediatric cancer in honor of our sweet Lucy. Lucy had a special relationship with each of these groups and they will forever know and share Lucy’s light and legacy.
Lucy was wise beyond her years and taught each of us how to smile through the storm. While her time with us was way too short, we will always remember the love she shared with us, the inspiration and motivation that she gave each of us, and the strength that she had.
