Sue was born to Doris Elizabeth Lee and Thomas Nelson Murff on March 13th, 1953, in Jacksonville, FL. She was a faithful member of Rainbow Girls in her younger years, and after graduating from Ribault High School, she worked for a local mechanical contractor, Thompkins Beckworth. She later transferred to New Orleans before taking a job at a hospital in San Francisco where she met her husband, Jim. Jim being in the Coast Guard, they traveled around the country with her favorite locations being Puerto Rico and Hawaii. They had their son, Zach, while stationed in Miami, before finally taking root in Jacksonville. Sue was very involved with her son’s school PTA and her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She served as president of both organizations and worked for Hallmark for many years while holding down the fort at home. She loved being a mom, her family, going on road trips, baking and anything related to Disney or Christmas.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jim, of over 40 years.
Sue is survived by her brothers, Donald Adrian Murff of Jacksonville and Richard Neal Murff of Yulee, her sister, Joy Lee Townsend of Ponte Vedra, her son, Zachary Thomas Spears of Jacksonville, his wife, Valerie, and grandson, Charles. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.
A visitation for Sue will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. A graveside service will occur Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Pinehurst Cemetery, 4835 Fairport Avenue, De Leon Springs, FL 32130.
