Laura was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. She received her AA degree from Florida Community of College in Jacksonville, FL and was an Executive Project Manager at Prudential for 22 years and IBM for 8 years before she retired in 2002.
Laura served faithfully at Terry Road Baptist Church teaching Sunday School for over 30 years. She loved playing card games and her monthly Bunco club was always a highlight. Laura loved to cook and hosting family and friends was one of her favorite things to do. She loved to travel and visited Russia, Scotland, England, Israel, France and most of the 50 states. In her later years, Laura experienced no greater joy than when she was with her eleven grandchildren.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents Emery Wilson Mills and Edith Gibney Mills, her first husband, Dennis Wayne Martin, and her second husband Dannie Kay Raulerson. She is survived by her husband Joseph Fredrick Pope, two daughters, Kelly Martin Lannom (Chris) and Kimberly Martin Udell (Greg), three siblings, Allison Mills Lusk (Tim), Dean Emery Mills (Jeannine), Kevin Wilson Mills and eleven grandchildren, Kemper Philip Lannom, Kensington Joyce Lannom, Coby Mills Lannom, Catherine Denise Lannom, Cooper Thomas Lannom, Keegan Richard Lannom, Karyss Anna Lannom, Camden Andrew Ray Lannom, Kendall Marie Lannom, Jacob Gregory Udell, Presley Denise Udell.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to City Beautiful Church NYC. Laura was passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ and contributed in many ways both physically and financially to furthering the gospel. City Beautiful Church is a church plant headed by her nephew, James Lusk located in New York City. Laura’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 8th at Oaklawn Cemetery at 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and the Memorial service is at 11:00 am. Tim Lusk, Laura’s brother-in-law, will be officiating the memorial.
