To the McDonald family…I am saddened to hear of Larry's passing, he by far was the most important mentor in my life.  I was fortunate enough to work for and with him for almost 10 years at DAS.  He hired me when most people probably wouldn't have because of my past.  I remember my interview (21 years ago) with him like it was yesterday…he had this folder on his desk in front of him and he opened it up (this was almost as soon as I sat down in his office), it was my background check, my heart sank.  He looked it over asked some questions and closed it.  He slid it to the side of his desk and said “I'm not going to hold that against you, we all have our past, including me, tell me about yourself”.  I got the job and started my official “maintenance” career started.  Working for him I learned a wealth of knowledge not particularly maintenance related, but more about holding myself to a higher standard, management style, and life in general.  Early on I would get soooo frustrated with him because his standards were so high.  No matter what I did or how I did it, he would find something I didn't do right.  As the years went on, I set my standards higher just to try to keep him from finding things wrong with what I did (seldom worked).  I tell you, that level of quality and expectation has taken me to where I am today…unfortunately for my employees, I'm now Larry.  As my time with DAS went on I moved into management and was able to get to know him on a more personal level…he was all about his family.   He was a very caring person although it may have been hard to see it sometimes through his tougher than nails exterior.  To me his greatest attribute was his ability to tell a story.  Oh my….he could tell a story, I use to love hearing his stories from days gone by.  He would get so tickled while telling some of them, he'd be laughing so hard he couldn't finish.  
I was able to tell him a few years ago how much he meant to me and how he influenced my life.  I will forever be thankful for the gift he gave me.
May you find strength in this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I'm sorry for your loss I worked with Larry for 16 years....He was a true friend he will be missed God bless his family and friends.

Linda and family, Sandra and I are saddened that Larry has left us. I know it is extremely difficult for you and the family to have lost a wonderful Husband, Father, Brother , Uncle and a great friend to many of us. I was bles
sed to have met Larry while he was working at Hobleman Port Services at Talleyrand in the 1970's, while handling what then was Datsun now Nissan. We had a great relationship over many years and I must say he was always honest, and willing to help in anything that was ask of him. He was known to be fair to everyone and put many new-comers under his wing and taught them the proper way to perform their duty. 
Now God has decided Larry's expert knowledge is needed in a far more important area with Jesus. He will be there waiting for his loved-ones to arrive. What a joyful day that will be, so hold onto the wonderful memories , you have and share them with others.  Stay firm in your love for Christ until that day arrives

Linda, We are so sorry to hear about Larry.  Robbie was just telling me the other night about talking with him in your garage and what a good talk they had.  I think Larry opened is eyes about the important things in life. Keep talking to him, I know he will hear you.  I still have chats with my mother. It is going to be such a hard adjustment, but as they say take baby steps on this road of pain and sorrow and you will see sunlight again.  Know that he is watching over you.
