returned to the Father’s House early dawn Thursday, November 10, 2022 peacefully at HCA
Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida attended by his oldest daughter and hospice care.
Kim was a devoted worker and father for over 74 years. With only 8 years of formal Chinese
education, Kim served in the French Army for 7 years. After being medically discharged, Kim
did construction works in the metropolis of Saigon, Viet nam until he was employed by Pacific
Architects and Engineers (PA&E) as a civilian contractor working for the US Army at the Phu
Lam U.S. satellite communications station for 7 years. He was the last native employee
participating in closing the sensitive installation until “the last bolt was removed.” When the
Communists captured Saigon on April 30, 1975, Kim believed the Blessed Virgin Mary
appeared to him and directed him to take his family to Ben Bach Dang, a Navy Supply Depot
on the Saigon River, in order to escape. After being rescued and admitted as refugees to the
USA, Kim and family were sponsored by Christ the King Catholic Church in the autumn of
1975, and he served as a school janitor there until his retirement. A deeply devout Catholic
Christian, Kim and his wife were members of the Christ the King Nocturnal Adorers for over
40 years. He served as a faithful sacristan at Christ the King for many years until the months
prior to his going home to Our Father who art in Heaven.
Predeceased by his parents, his wife of 73 years, and a younger brother, Kim is survived by 7
children: Lan (Alvin) Snelgrove, Maria Nu (Henry) Nguyen, Paul Ngan, Joey (Melanie), Khanh
Kim, Mai Tuyet, and My (Angela); 5 grandchildren: Kathy (Randy) Taylor, Michael Nguyen,
