Kete Chandler

Thelma Claudia Browning Chandler, affectionately known as “Kete” was born February 2nd, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida to Judge Archibald and Lula Melinda Jane Armstrong Browning. She passed from her earthly life into her eternal heavenly life on the fourth of July 2021 in Warner Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She resided at The Jane Adams House for the last 7 months where she received loving, compassionate care.

She grew up in Springfield at Phoenix and 20th Streets. She attended Northeast Springfield Elementary, Kirby Smith and graduated in 1944 from Andrew Jackson.

She attended Jacksonville University where she met her future husband - William Timothy “Tim” Chandler in Psychology class.

They married June 16, 1947 at Riverview Baptist Church in North Jacksonville. She painted a huge mural of a waterfall that hung behind the Baptismal for many years.

Tim passed away in 1996. She met another Georgia boy while dancing – Merlin Fred Burt. They married in 2003. They danced weekly. Merlin passed away in 2007.

She kept on dancing until Covid.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 4 brothers, first husband, Tim Chandler, Sr, second husband, Merlin Burt, 2 sons, William Timothy “Timmy” Chandler Jr. Wayne Darrell Chandler, granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Chandler and great granddaughter Kaily Briana Brubeck.

She leaves behind to mourn her passing, her daughter Brenda Chandler Brubeck (Michael),

6 grandchildren – Wm Timothy Chandler III (Amanda), Denise Brubeck Johnson (Greg), Brian Darrell Brubeck (Stacey), Adrian Lacy Chandler, Cameron Edward Brubeck (Bree), Julie Melinda Chandler Gordon (Ben).

15 Great grandchildren – Jacob Chandler Brubeck (Danielle), Joshua Lynn Johnson (Danielle), Kori Danielle Johnson Wieder (Josh), Ciara Nicole Brubeck Boatwright (Devin), Brianna Lynn Chandler, Brittany Nicole Chandler, Destiny Elizabeth Chandler, Adrianna & Alyssa Chandler, Robert Austin Chandler, Zachary Edward Brubeck, Elijah Daniel Brubeck, Noah Ray Brubeck, Sydney Olivia Gordon, Noelle Claire Gordon.

7 Step Great grandchildren John, Pili and Michael Johnson, Presley and Austin Jessie, Kynnedy Esteves (Renny), Tahj Borrero.

7 Great-great grandchildren – Oliver Jay Wieder, Wyatt James Brubeck, Theodore Scott Wieder, Nolan Chandler Brubeck, Sebastian Johnson, Riley Mae Rae Wieder, Ava Mae Brubeck.

3 Step Great Great grandchildren – Colton, Carter Mikesell and Julian DeJesus.

Services will be Monday July 12th, 2021 at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 904-288-0025

The family will receive visitors at 10:00 am. The service starts at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery next to her first husband, Tim Chandler Sr.
