On Monday, January 2, 2023, Kenny Lee Knox passed away at the age of 82 at PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Jacksonville. Kenny was born in Georgetown, Guyana on February 18, 1940, son of the late Eldred Knox and Ursula Corbin. He was the youngest of four children, two preceded him in death.
In his early twenties, Kenny immigrated to the United Kingdom where he worked as a security officer. His hobbies included fashion designing, playing football on Sundays at the Continental Club in Finsbury Park, and being a party promoter and D.J. (General K). In 1980, Kenny immigrated to the United States and lived in Dallas, TX; San Jose, CA; and Jacksonville, FL. He worked for Costco until his retirement.
Kenny was proud to be from Guyana and would keep up with Guyanese current events. He was a quiet, kind, friendly, and outgoing person. He was best known for his generosity and his willingness to help. He had a flare for education and helped many achieve their academic aspirations. Kenny loved his family and friends and made it his duty to spend time with them each time he returned to Guyana.
Kenny is fondly remembered by his nieces and brother who frequently share stories and experiences of them growing up as children. One story in particular, recalled by his late sister Ula, describes an incident when Kenny had to be reminded by his mother that he was forbidden from accepting presents from anyone. Kenny, having accepted a gift, commented "I never had anything like this?" Although his comments brought everyone to hysterics, his mother spared him from a flogging on that day.
Kenny will be dearly missed by his loved ones, consisting of family and friends. He will fondly be remembered as Uncle Kenny by his nieces. Those left to cherish his memory include his brother Lionel Corbin, niece Gloria Hamilton, great nieces Gillian Hamilton-nee Shepherd, Abigail Hamilton-nee LaRose, longtime friend Veronica Wallerson, and many extended family members and friends.
