Kathaleen S. Chrosniak, age 63, was born in Memphis, Tennessee on July 24th, 1949 and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 5th, 2013. She was a child prodigy at the age of 3 by learning to play the accordion, which brought her in the spotlight on the Virginia Atter Keys show and the Lawrence Welk show prior to television. During her youth, she became a competition roller skater champion. Early in her career, she was pro-active with senior citizens in Keystone Heights, FL and started one of the first “Meals on Wheels” programs to assist shut-in seniors. Kathy went to Sante Fe College and the University of Gainesville to earn a degree in psychology and social work to help people suffering from social disorders of the brain and to help remove abused children from detrimental environments. Later, she decided to procure work in the data processing field; where she became one of the top workers for Blue Cross Blue Shield until a car accident disabled her mentally and physically. Unable to function in a working environment, her husband involved her in the church choir. She sang alto at Church of the Crucifixion and St Pius V Catholic Church adult choirs, while her husband played the organ at both churches. Kathy was like her mother in many ways, always caring and making a friend wherever she went. In our lifetime, we can count on one hand our most special and truest friends. Kathy was one of these wonderful people to everyone she met. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Maxine Sopkowiak, and brother Gerald Sopkowiak. Survivors include her devoted husband, Douglas Chrosniak, of 31 years; Son, Michael Chrosniak (Sabre); Daughter, LaNora Chrosniak; Sister, Sheryldean Yates; and Jean Sopkowiak (Wife of Gerald). Family will have visitation on Friday, April 12th, 2013 from 7-9pm at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jax, FL 32205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Saturday, April 13th, 2013 at the Church of the Crucifixion, 3183 Edgewood Ave. West, Jax, FL 32209. Interment will follow services at Riverside Memorial Park.
