Julius Wesley "Wes" English, Jr., age 86, passed away September 10, 2019 at Haven Hospice of Orange Park. Wes was preceded in death by his parents Julius W. English, Sr. and Teckla Mortenson English of Brandon, Vermont; his brother Kenneth English, step-son Kenneth Ledford, son Wes English, III, daughter Cathy Lewis, and daughter Valerie Hamby.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia (Patsy) English; his daughter Melissa Woods (Mike); step-son Billy Higgs; step-daughter Angela Christy (Michael); sisters Catherine May English Bishop (Tom), June Margaret English Santuro (Joe), Doris English Malinoski (George); brother Charles F. English (Judy); and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Wes was a honor student in school, and also began working at the age of 7 with his father at Cye Elmore Motors Ford dealership in Brandon / Rutland, Vermont. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America. Wes served in the United States Marine Corps, and was active duty during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Lions Club. He taught night classes for small engine building and repair at Ribault High School for numerous years. Wes retired from US Gypsum after 32 years. He also worked for St. Regis Paper Co. Woodlands Division for quite sometime. Wes enjoyed flipping houses in the Arlington area, even before it was popular to do so. He built his home on Black Hammock Island, being the second home in the area. Wes also raced a stockcar at Jax Raceways, but willingly gave up doing so for the love of his life. He and his wife Patricia enjoyed going many various NASCAR races as well.
Wes was well known and respected for his expertise in repairing all mechanical equipment. He was known for his quick wit and humor, and hard work ethic.
A memorial and committal service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m., lane 2. In lieu of flowers, please designate donations to Haven Hospice.
