Julia Fita Segovia Phillips passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2024. She was born in Santiago, Chile on August 22, 1924 to Julia Fita Segovia and Cirilo Fita. Julia had three sisters, Lucy Campla (deceased), Flor Seda (deceased), and Lila Marshall.
Julia met the love of her life during World War II in her home country of Chile. Frederick Phillips (deceased) was an aerial photographer for the U.S. air corp. They married in Chile on October 1, 1944. Julia would be the first War Bride of her Country. The adventurous Julia would move to the United States and Fred taught her photography and English. They opened Phillips Studio, and found their new career to be very successful. Julia’s specialty was painting, and she won several awards. Their love of pictures has allowed the family to enjoy and document many memories of special events over the last 70 years.
Later in life, Julia’s love for fashion and style led her to become a beautician. Her family and friends appreciated her modern wardrobe, especially the colorful hats and wigs…and those crazy animal prints.
Julia enjoyed many hobbies and belonged to many clubs. Her favorite was going to Bingo with her mothers and sisters.
She had the soul of an artist, and she touched our lives in the most beautiful ways. She cherished her family and opened her home to all. Everyone loved her and will miss her dearly.
Julia is survived by her son Raymond Phillips, daughter-in-law Rhonda Phillips. Grandson Senior Master Sergeant Frederick Phillips, his wife Crystal Phillips and their two daughters Reese and Riley. She is also survived by her sister Lila Marshall and a plethora of nieces and nephews, and their families.
A visitation for Julia will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A graveside service will occur Friday, February 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
