Judy Gale Riddle Barbour was a loving and gentle wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She went to her eternal home with Jesus on June 27, 2023 at the age of 78, in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.
Judy was born November 11, 1944, in Decherd, Tennessee. She lived most of her early life in Pensacola, Florida, graduating from Tate High School in 1962. On March 24, 1967, she married her sweetheart and nextdoor neighbor, Bill Barbour.
Until the end of her life, Judy was faithfully devoted to her church home, Mandarin Church of Christ. She taught the two- and three-year-olds Sunday School class until her deteriorating hearing required her to serve her church in a new way: through her birthday card ministry. She sent each and every church member a birthday card on their special day, handmade just for them. She thought carefully about each person while making their card, capturing their gifts and personality so that they would know that they were seen and loved. This is just one example of the many ways in which Judy worked to bring joy to others.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Freda Riddle, and her in-laws Dale and Irene Barbour. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Roy “Bill” Barbour; sons William Dale Barbour and Douglas Cary Barbour; her beloved grandchildren Nashmarie Joy Barbour and Davin Roy Barbour, all of Jacksonville; and her sisters Darlene (Vince) Formica of Mobile, AL, Deanna (Ronnie) Overson of Pensacola, FL, and Donna (Jeff) Neely of Pensacola, FL. She is also survived by her other sister (in-law) Patricia Barbour Duncan (Michael) and brother-in-law John Barbour (Angela) of Pensacola, FL. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that dearly loved her.
Judy ceaselessly fought the good fight and kept the faith. Her loved ones have no doubt that now that her work is done, she is wearing the “crown of righteousness,” at peace in the presence of her Lord. (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
