On April 25, Joyce Hipps Allen beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend peacefully passed away at the age of 93 years young of natural causes. She was born in DeLand, Florida where she was educated and spent her youth but lived her whole adult life as a resident of Jacksonville, Florida. Her parents were Brady and Alice Cordell along with four siblings Wally Cordell, Dora Mae Eulenfield, Wilbur Cordell, and Sadie Van Houten (All Deceased).
Joyce’s passion was helping others in her family, community and basically everyone she came into contact with, she was notorious for striking up conversations with strangers to give them a warm compliment or begin an in-depth conversation. Her careers throughout her life included a telephone operator, airport security agent, and caregiver. Joyce was also an avid volunteer in her community and devout Christian and attended her church regularly. She made an impact on many lives.
Joyce was known for her infectious laugh, sense of humor and her undeniable quick wit! She was also very recognizable, most of the time having some color shade of purple (her favorite color) on her ensemble as she was always put together perfectly. Her hobbies and interests were collecting angels, gardening, decorating her yard and collecting all things purple.
Joyce’s love for life, her family, her compassion and knowledge accumulated over 93 years will be passed down through future generations and she will be missed forever.
Joyce is survived by her husband Norman Allen; Daughters: Brenda Clower, and Audrey Campbell; Grandchildren: Dwayne Waxer (wife Jennifer Waxer), Lance Hurlbert and Nancy Eslayse; Great Grandchildren: Saxby Waxer and Shelby Waxer; Various Nieces/Nephews including Lora Van Houten,
Brad Herring, Bob Herring, Lisa Jones, Preston Blalock and Kimberly Cordell;
As well as various great nieces & nephews.
A visitation for Joyce will be held Monday, May 1, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A committal service will occur Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
