Joy Gay Jones, 67, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away after a hard fought illness, on August 19, 2021 surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was born November 30, 1953 in Valparaiso, FL. She was the youngest child of the late W.W. (Bill) and Eloise Gay. She attended Forrest High School. She graduated from University of Florida and received a Master’s and Specialist’s Degree in Counseling. She was married to Dr. Vernon Jones on August 20, 1977 and had a love story for the record books. She passed away a day before their 44th anniversary. Joy managed Vernon’s ophthalmology practice for 27 years and enjoyed working side by side every day with her love. She retired to become the best Geemomma around. She was passionate about her love for Christ and wanted her life to glorify the Lord in every way. She loved her family fiercely and fought with everything she had to be home with them again. She was known for the best set tables in town, elaborate parties, home cooked meals, and the most festive decorations for all holidays. She was an avid Gator fan and could whistle louder than anyone. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader. She loved dancing ballroom with Vernon and was so much fun to watch. She had a smile that would light up a room, loved people, and was a “mom” to everyone. Her loss leaves an enormous void and she will be missed every day of our lives.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Dr. Vernon; Children: Leah Jones Copham (Brian), Paul Vernon Jones, Jr (Christin); Grandchildren: Eloise Grace (Ellie Grace) Copham, Adley Joy Copham, Rhodes William Copham, Mary June Jones, Garland Grace Jones, Paul Vernon Jones, III (Judge); Siblings: Bill Gay (Louise), Bob Gay (Carol), Deborah Gay Croft (the late Jerry Croft) and many nieces and nephews.
