Joseph C. McKinney, 90, of Jacksonville passed away Monday, November, 14, 2016. Joseph was the second youngest of six children born to the late Mary Ellen and Charles P. McKinney in Philadelpia, Pa. . At the young age of three, Joseph moved to New York City with his parents and siblings. Joseph was a graduate of St. Columba Catholic High School. He married his first and only true love Ann Maria McKinney. He served his country in the United States Navy, serving during WWII. Many years later, he and his wife moved to Jacksonville in 1973. Once he settled, he found employment with Drummond Press where he worked as a pressman. After retirement he found enjoyment working at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church downtown working in the bookstore as a clerk and as a Eucharistic minister. Joseph was an active member of the VFW Post #1689, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #88, Prince of Peach Catholic Church and Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Marguerite E. McKinney; daughter-in-law, Nancy Schlefstein; Sister Dolores A. McKinney, grandson, James A. Schlefstein; granddaughter, Marlo A. Beecher; great-grandson, Darren R. Schlefstein; along with nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 1:30pm at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home.
