Joseph attended Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Florida, where he participated in the Junior ROTC program and the JV football team. During his High School years, Joseph excelled in Tae Kwon Do and advanced to being a youth instructor at Pak’s Karate Mandarin. In 2000, Joseph won the Florida State Youth Bowling Tournament.
Joseph started his college career at the University of Florida and completed his Bachelor’s Degree in History at the University of North Florida. A responsible young man, Joseph insisted on paying for all his college expenses, and he attended classes while working many hours at local restaurants to make ends meet.
Rewarding himself for his hard work, Joseph and his best buddy Kyle Mullan, financed a trip of a lifetime - backpacking for two months through Europe. During the summer of 2007, the two trekked through Ireland, England, France, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
Joseph would tell you that his proudest accomplishment is his daughter Makayla Mitchell-Jordan, age 10. Joseph felt that the best day of his life was when Makayla was born. Together, they shared many fun and special days. There were always late-night ice cream runs (the bigger and fancier the better!) and movie marathons with Makayla always snuggled in his lap. Makayla is following in her father’s footsteps with her love of Karate. She is currently on track for her solid brown belt.
All who knew Joseph would describe him as funny, kind, and helpful. Joseph’s wonderful attributes and sweet nature were recognized early on. In his elementary school years, Joseph was chosen by his classmates and teachers as THE exemplary model student at Julington Creek Elementary. He maintained these values his whole life. Joseph was also a masterful chef. He could take simple leftovers and turn them into a gourmet meal. He tried to expand his parents’ kitchen by buying them culinary tools, such as a Crème Brulee torch and Moroccan Tagine. If Joe loved you, you KNEW it!
Joseph is preceded in death by his dearest Nanny, Mary Jordan and his greatly admired grandfather, Joseph Walter. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Makayla; his devoted parents, Jim and Carol; his treasured sister, Bethany (Jordan) Hamlett; and a long list of caring relatives.
A memorial celebration of Joseph’s life will be scheduled at a future date.
