

Born on January 11, 1965 in Belleville, IL, Joseph Scott Higgins grew up in O’Fallon, IL. with his parents, Edward Joseph and Mary Etta, and younger sister Lisa. Growing up he became a huge fan of 80’s Rock music, and especially loved the group Motley Crue.
He attended college on a soccer scholarship at Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL. In 1985 he moved to Omaha Nebraska. In 1990 he was relocated to Jacksonville, FL. through his company, where he has since resided.
Scott began his working career in the electrical supply business. In 1987 he started working for Omaha Railway Signal Company. In 1994 continued his railroad career with Xorail (formerly Southwest Signal Engineering), which is a division of the Wabtec Corporation for the last 27 years of his career. As a Director of Engineering for Wabtec, he proudly led a complete team of personnel, which supported multiple railroads.
He loved all sports, and if you knew him, he was always referencing and/or collecting memorabilia of the Huskers, Cardinals, or the Jaguars! He was a very active person in his personal life also, with long time activity in Flag Football with the 4on4 of Jax league for numerous years, winning several championships. He also loved spending time with his wife and daughter going to escape rooms, bingo, and trivia with the Squirrely Bunch. He also volunteered and played in local charity golf events, and in 2020 he was proudly entered into the Blackburn College Hall of Fame for his 1983 national soccer championship.
He is survived by his wife of 33 wonderful years, Lisa (nee Eickholt), his daughter Jessica Higgins, and his sister Lisa Stoszkus (nee Higgins), and stepbrothers Michael and Charles Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his Mother Mary Etta (nee Frank) in 1984, his Father Edward Joseph Higgins in 2021, and his stepmother Susan Higgins (nee Henschen) in 2014.
A memorial service for Joseph Scott Higgins will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225
