Jose Miguel Colon-Torres, 56, known to his family as Tuto, departed this life on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021, at his home in Cooper City, FL. He was a devoted father, son and a most-beloved brother and uncle.
Tuto was born to Iris M. Torres and the late Dr. Jose B. Colon-Fernandez in Ponce, Puerto Rico on September 29, 1964. As a young child and the third eldest of 6 children, Tuto had an independent nature, was meticulous about his appearance and appreciated order. He was determined to achieve his goals, even if that meant jumping off the roof of his house to learn to fly like a superhero.
At 17, Tuto moved with his family to Jacksonville, FL, where he graduated high school. At 21, he got married and a year later he joined and served honorably in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service, his sons were born and Tuto earned an Associate of Science degree in Technology. Upon his discharge in 1998, he continued his education earning a Bachelor of Electronic Commerce degree and later a Master of Business Administration degree. For more than 20 years he worked as a skilled and accomplished project management professional earning several certifications. While most recently employed by Carnival Cruise Lines, Tuto's colleagues appreciated his dedication to perfection he put into his work and will remember him for his compassion and empathy.
Throughout his life, Tuto expressed his passion freely. He loved openly and praised often. His dedication to his family came through in the affection he showed. Tuto's greatest joys were his two sons, to whom he was a devoted Papi. He enjoyed dancing, playing his bongos and congas and could get lost in almost any genre of music. During good and tough times, Tuto had faith and a love for God. He was open about his struggles to battle and survive cancer and leaned on his relationships with his family for support. He made sure those closest to him knew and felt his love and pride for them and he will be greatly missed.
Tuto is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jose Colon-Colon and Julia Fernandez, his maternal grandparents Ildefonso Torres and Rosa Rodriguez and his father, Dr. Jose Colon-Fernandez.
A Tuto-sized hole has been left in the hearts of his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his sons; Franco (Leslie) and Niko. His former spouse and mother of his children, Rosita. His mother, Iris. His sister, Taty and his brothers; Joey (Madeline), Tito, Danny (Chris), Arnaldo (Hunter).
