Jon was taken away from us so unexpectedly in February.  Life would forever be changed and we still miss him .  He has since gained more Grandchildren from his devoted and loving daughter Madison Miller Pringle . Jon (5) would have loved his Grampa Jon  and I have no doubt Jon would have had him out on a boat , motorcycle , or riding in one of his many cars by now . Valley (3) would be right along side him and Well as Mercy (1) Miller Pringle . Mercy carries his last name as her middle to honor her Brother and her Grampa.  Always Missed and loved .

The shirt I chose to wear to Jon’s celebration of life simply had the lyrics of the song we listened to over and over our long drive from Ga to Jacksonville. Always a great memory. I’ll never forget how blessed I was with him . Forever on my mind .

Your first Grandson. Hold him close today until we see you both again .

A day I’ll never forget .. honestly the happiest I had ever seen Jon. April 26,1994 his first and only child was born . He was nervous and quite happy to stand by my side and hold my hand lol that’s about as comfortable as he was with the delivery process. But my goodness what a smile he had on his face when they placed her in his arms . The sincere and undeniable love he felt for her was obvious.  That look never went away everyday of his life . What a joy it was to see him with her .  What a beautiful memory. We miss you Jon and would love for you to be here with now your grandchildren.  Jon Talbot and Valley Kove . Much love .

Jon was a man of his word . He was generous and kind and a wonderful human being. It’s been four years now and my thoughts of him are with me daily.  I knew his routine ... like clockwork until the day I received that call . The one that forever changed our lives . Even today my thoughts are with you .  You deserve so much happiness and I love you always.  Hug our little Miller Jax and keep your hands on the love of your life your daughter .

Jon was and will always be a driving force in our lives . He enjoyed life so much and would have been so excited to welcome his 2nd grandson into the world 2018. Jon Talbot Pringle was named after Jon and Madison is just an amazing mother to him. Jon would be proud of the way she has handled herself. She misses his guidance and Love more than anything.  There are still no words to describe the feeling of losing a loved one at such a young age . He was successful, kind , loved nature and everyone loved him. We were blessed and his memory lives on .  

The proudest moment I'll ever remember with Jon is the day Madison was born . When I called him to tell him we were having a girl he was so excited . I remember clearly stopping to use payphone to let him know . Back then we had no cell phone . He was so Happy . The day she was born Jon was obviously a nervous wreck but still excited . He insisted on standing up beside me because I guess he didnt think he was ready to see a child delivered lol . But the moment he laid his eyes on her he lite up with a huge smile and such a glow . Its like he was the only man who had ever had a child . Afterall it was his child  and he loved her from the moment he saw her . She was spoiled but most of all she was shown unconditional love from the moment he laid eyes on her . I then knew my place would always be second in his eyes and I was completely okay  with that . She was , is  and always will be his baby girl .

Something I wrote earlier and meant to read at Jon's memorial service but felt it was not the time or place.

The Jon I knew and loved and will continue to love.

Considering that I knew Jon at least 9 months longer than anyone else other than his God, I will attempt to relate a few stories that I remember and treasure as his mother.

Jon was born with a head full of curly dark hair and the biggest smile you ever saw which translated that he was glad to finally be here.

His big sister Julie was another little mother to him even tho she was only 2 years older.  I caught her one day when Jon was weeks old, she had taken him out of the bassinet and was attempting to change his diaper as she had seen me do.

He was an active little boy investigating everything in sight. Always climbing, at age three he fell off the top of the backyard swing set breaking his arm. He could do damage with that cast, it was almost as big as he was. 

Jon never liked getting dressed up and Sunday mornings were hectic at our house getting everybody ready for Sunday school and church. With six kids, by the time I got the last one dressed and ready, the first two were a mess.  I would take the boys to their class with shirts and ties in place and when I picked them up, Jon's shirt would always be hanging out and his tie wadded up in his pocket. The only time Jon ever wanted to be dressed up and look sharp was at his senior prom when he picked white tux with tails to wear. He did look sharp too. 

When he was young, he always wanted to be Batman so with his younger sister, Jayne as his Robin, he pretended to drive Little Quack, an amphibious car sitting in the garage, every place their imaginations could possibly take them. My sewing machine cabinet suffered greatly as it was considered a high rise building from which to climb and leap off on rainy days when they could not play outdoors. 

I remember he and classmate Louie Cavallo dressed up as Aunt Jemima and her husband and won first prize in the Halloween contest that year. Of course, Jon was Aunt Jemima and carried the baby.

When he was in grade school, he could sing like an angel and of course was picked for the all-county chorus. They sang To Dream the Impossible Dream and he was so excited that he got to sing HELL out loud. That was considered a bad word.

And then his voice changed!

Jon and his older brother Joe had a paper route which they delivered on a small motorcycle.  Joe would drive and Jon would throw papers from the back. One day Joe turned and Jon leaned the wrong way causing them to lose control and run thru a customer's rose garden.  They were both pretty scratched up and looked pretty strange with all their scratches painted with merthiolate. The rose bushes faired better.

I remember how he worked at the marina on the gas dock and how his personality and dependability made all the customers love and respect him. He saved his money and bought a gold metallic dune buggy at 11 years of age. Of course, he could only drive it around the roads at the marina but that was cool to Jon. And who else had a dune buggy at 11 years old.

Speaking of money, Jon saved his money and occasionally would float a loan to one of his brothers or sisters.  Interest was charged of course and an IOU signed. Sometimes even collateral was held. A record player, a GI Joe, etc.  Several years ago I found one of his IOUs stuck in with some pictures, I told Jon and we had a laugh. 

Jon and Joe shared the third floor of our house which they called the penthouse. You never knew what animals took up residence there, from mice, guinea pigs, fish aquariums, etc. Younger brothers Jay and Jeff were taught by Jon to make handkerchief parachutes and tie to their GI Joes, then drop them from the 3rd floor windows.  It required a lot of stair climbing to retrieve them and do it over and over again.


Graduation reminds me of how his diploma reads: He thought maybe his real name wasn't quite notable enough so he added a little. His diploma reads Jon Frederick Miller, III. Of course he was the first and only.


Jon loved his grandparents, he loved spending time with his papaw Miller at the marina store and spending time with his papaw McClurg in his workshop. He loved his Nana's potato salad and his Mammaw's fat biscuits.

Another sad day was when I carried him to leave for Army basic training; I had already carried his older brother a few years earlier to the Coast Guard. They were both a whole lot more excited about leaving than I was to see them go.

Jon was shipped off to Germany as a helicopter mechanic and while there began having horrible headaches. He was hospitalized and after many, many phone calls thru the Red Cross, I reached his commanding officer who gave me information where Jon was. I finally reached a doctor, a German surgeon who spoke very little English and my only German word was NEIN. He told me they were considering brain surgery and after one very frustrating and confusing conversation, he agreed he would recommend Jon be returned stateside which he was.  They finally decided brain surgery was not required and shortly afterward Jon was medically and honorably discharged.

Jon moved around some spending time in Atlanta with his Miller grandparents and working in sales awhile before moving back to the Shoals. He rented a little cabin by the river and lived there with his menagerie, a Doberman, a cat, two parrots and a ferret. One evening he called after work and was upset, he had thrown his cat out of the house as one parrot was missing. Several days later, the mystery was solved and the cat moved back inside. Come to find out, the ferret ate the parrot. 

Jon was always so dependable paying his debts, usually way ahead of time and had a weekly routine in later years of sitting down at the dining room table on Saturday morning, making out checks and taking them to be mailed. I have on occasion been with him and he'd say Mom, let's go to the post office. He'd put the top down on whichever car he chose to drive and off we'd go.


I've heard it said that Jon could sell ice and snow to Eskimos but it was not only his ability to sell but his apparent caring that the customer would get the best service he could provide. Jon took great pride in serving his customers and seldom took off work and did lose a lot of vacation days to provide a continued service. He just didn't feel a substitute would give them the service they deserved. 

He would call me from work and say What you doing? And he really wanted to know.. Whether I was feeding chickens, watering the greenhouse, or cooking.  If I was cooking, he wanted to know what I was cooking. He really wanted to know. Then he would say, Mom, every light on my phone is lit up, you are so good for business and I would tell him, call any time.

Jon received devotionals on line daily as did I. We shared devotionals back and forth often especially if it was something we both felt strongly about. I know some of you here might have sent him some also as he would forward them on to me. Jon loved God, he loved this earthly home God made for us and he could not understand how people would not take care of it. 

He called me one day several years ago very upset as he had tried to talk to someone who was facing a serious surgery and he wanted to make sure that person was ready to meet his maker. The person had rejected Jon's witness and told him he didn't want to hear that Jesus stuff. It broke his heart to hear that. 

Jon loved Jacksonville, I would ask if he might consider moving up farther north and be closer and he would say, Mom, it gets cold up there.  He loved his family, his wife, his kids and grandkids but he also loved his siblings, his friends and acquaintances and I knew he loved me.  He never hung up without telling me and I told him. 

Thank you all for being here and showing your love, your respect and your gratitude. Jon would be proud.


Thank you for listening to one ole woman remembering a son well loved.

 Jon Miller was my step son and a friend.  These past weeks I observed not only his dad, wife and daughter grieve over their loss but I also observed the outpouring of love for this young man from family, friends, neighbors, his customers whom became his friends. I see and hear Jon through all the stories they all have to tell about how Jon impacted their life. I remember the nights after everyone had gone to bed him and I would stay up and have long talks about how he saw his life unfolding. He truly had a unique way of how he viewed this world. Those of you who know Jon know how he loved & protected his "stuff". But if you looked and listened further he loved & cared for his family, his friends, his customers, all animals big & small, and this earth we live on. He was the kind of person who wouldn't hesitate to stop and pick up or feed a stranded animal on the side of the road or pay a young families restaurant bill or stop and pick up trash someone just threw out their window. 
Jon truly is a kind and caring soul with a smile that lit up room!  Rest well my friend!

No father could have been more proud then I was of Jon. He seemed to remember all the mistakes I made and correct then in his life.He had ambition and drive to provide for his family and still have have enough for his toys. He had a great love for boats and collector cars.He never once flaunted his stuff, instead drove a 2001 Ford pickup or a 2004 yellow Jeep. Even with his untimely death he provided for his family. 
No parent wants or expects their children to precede them in death. As unexpected as Jon's death was it leaves a hole in my heart and an emptiness I have never experienced before.

I shared my life with Jon for 24 years . He was an amazing person , kind, giving and loved our family . He provided for us and even now he is still doing his best to take care of us in more ways than one . With Jon it was the little things that he did that counted the most . There was never a time that i couldn't pick up the phone and tell him what i needed and he wouldn't have it done for me . We shared a passion for animals and Jon gave so much of himself to making sure that our environment was protected , he wanted to make sure that even the smallest animals had a fair chance . So many little animals he brought home and tried to fix when he would find them on the road . If he couldn't catch them he would feed them daily . Not just on the days it was convenient but everyday . He gave back to the world what he took out of it and I'll always admire the man he was . He's left me with a beautiful daughter who will now carry the torch for him and continue to make a difference in this world. I will forever be proud to say I am Jon F. Millers wife . Though he may not be here physically he will always be by my side and giving me the best advice .

The funny thing about birth order is its all complete happenstance.  It’s a coin toss.  Luck of the draw.  But it forever affects where you stand and what you see.  I looked up.  I saw Jon. Simply by the closeness of our ages I got front row seats, to be the sidekick, the accomplice, occasionally catching a few bruises in the mix.  But he was my Batman and I was his Robin.


In the mid-late 60’s we were 5 and 6 years old.  Our house in Louisville, Kentucky had a separate garage building out behind the backyard.  It housed our mother’s dark green convertible Impala.  We spent hours upon hours in that parked car playing out car chases in our heads, describing the scenes and the cities, playing super heroes.  We had towels tied around our necks and occasionally we’d get in trouble for jumping off the furniture in the house (mom’s cabinet sewing machine mostly) humming out theme song (Yes, Jon even owned the record).  “Dunnah, nunnah, nunnah, nunnah, BatMan. “
The show itself now seems even too campy for words but we rarely, if ever missed an episode.  As soon as it ended we’d run to the garage wearing our towels.  Important side note, Jon never once let me drive.  Never. Once. Did. I . Get. To.Drive. 


One day Jack came home with something of a wonderment to us both; an amphibious car.  It was a small yellow sports car that had fins on the back and a propeller on each side of the back end.  It could be driven in the water and used like a boat.  We were giddy.  We owned an actual Bat Mobile!  Our super hero fantasy games exploded to a whole new level.  But eventually we grew up and on to new games and left our capes behind us.  We started crafting large tracks for our Hot Wheels cars and hosted races.   Jon played banker as we betted wildly with our Monopoly money.


Years passed we grew up. He joined the army, I went to college. I always knew he was there even though we didn’t speak that often.  But in 1996 when my marriage ended, I called my brother for some advice.  I was sideways in debt on a car I couldn’t afford AND pay rent.  Jon had worked many years in car sales at that time and while I called him only for some advice.  My big brother came to my rescue.  He traveled here and went with me to the dealership to negotiate me out of the Nissan Pathfinder I was driving an into a lease agreement that I could manage.  Itwas a three year deal.  He told me when he was heading out to think long and hard about what I wanted to drive and when the lease ran out we’d work on that.
Almost three years later I called my brother and told him about my dream car.  I had been a VW girl as a college student.  Jon always teased me for trading for older ones instead of for newer ones, but I loved the chrome.  I know he did, too.  So the search was on.  Jon scouted the Jacksonville area for a VWKarmann Ghia.  When he found one he liked, we co-signed our names and he purchased it and told me come get my ride.
  Mom and I drove down to see you guys.  I think it was Labor Day weekend.  Jon greeted us in the driveway when we pulled in.  He wanted to see my face when I first laid eyes on the car.  I had no words.  He was standing there so proud and beaming, a grinning dimple.  I got out and just walked around it.The car was painted black with a black and white interior.  It had these huge wide racing wheels and this tiny white racing steering wheel.  It did have a front bumper, a fiberglass cutout.  But the back, oh jeez, the back was a spectacle. The back end held a Porsche 911 whale tail rear spoiler.  It was the singularly most unVolkswagen,Volkswagen that I had ever laid eyes on and beside it stood my beaming brother.  I tried to swallow any disappointment that strained to the surface. I hugged him, thanked him and we took it for a spin.


That car got me an enormous amount of attention.  Film maker friends wanted to write a script around it.  People working gas stations would leave the register to walk around it. People would gawk as I drove by. I got pulled over by the police more than once just so they could ask me what it was.  I would tell Jon these stories and he would laugh.I drove the Ghia for about three years until I found and purchased a 1973 VW Squareback that I named Miss Kittie.  I ended up selling the Ghia to make a down payment on the house that I now reside in.

  
I was recounting this story of my brother to Mom and Charlie while driving down to Jon’s memorial. Mom was remembering too at me trying to hide my disappointment that day with my brother.  As I was driving I remembered that look of pride and satisfaction as he had handed me the keys.  I remembered how kind and generous he was to help me out that time and other times.  I remembered how playful and loving he could be.  But for the first time ever one thought occurred to me.  My brother had given me the Bat Mobile and I never realized it.  Thank you, brother.  I love you.  

I've known jon almost 20 years... him and I have talked on and weekly, daily basis along those years and have gotten to know each other very close. I feel I personally know his family. Jon was a my friend.. and I will greatly miss our daily conversations.   Everyday I ordered parts as we hung up we would drag the word byyyyeee out.... my friend this is not bye. I'll see you again.  Love you brother and I miss you.   God bless your family!

You dad was a awesome guy Madison, it has definitely taken everyone by surprise. I don't feel the same way not talking to him everyday at work. We used to talk about Huck all the time. He has been in my life pretty much everyday for the last 10 yrs. I am sure he is watching over you, he talked about you a lot. Your family is in my prayers!

I still hear his voice every morning, every Monday it was happy Monday Jon, every Wednesday was happy jump Jon, and every Friday was the same, when I would have to call him back 2 mins later because of a part I forgot to order, I was it's me again margret and he would say hey margret lol, it's just hard to except that I'm not gonna talk to him anymore, he was a really awesome guy to talk to and I miss it every day.

Dear Shirley, Madison, Autumn, Jake and Kaleigh,   I am so sorry for your loss.  I have worked at Transtar in Florence for almost 20 years and I cant recall a single week that I didn't speak to Jon.  He was so positive and so uplifting in every conversation.  I still expect to hear him when I see a call coming in from Florida.  I am still in shock I cant imagine the loss ya are experiencing.  We all miss Jon in Florence  Praying for you all - May God be with ya in the days ahead.

Shirley and family, I talked to John a few times at work and he was so friendly and made me feel important. I really enjoyed our calls and it made want to communicate more often. I feel so much for all of you.

I'm sorry for your loss Shirley...you have carried so much, and much more I am unaware of...you are the epitome of a strong woman. You are in my prayers...God Be with you, my friend.

Y'all have been on my mind and heart so much the last few days. I've learned over the last few years that you are an incredibly strong woman with an incredible family. I've learned that your family means absolutely everything to each other. You, too, are a great person that we admire for so many things. So many love you, not for what you do for us, but for the person you are and the way you make everyone feel. You deserve to let us help you and do for you. Jon introduced me to half of what I know. He shared this with me on the way back from Georgia, Garth Brooks The Dance. Shirley, we should have met on that trip. It was the summer of 1991 and Jon and i had driven to Georgia to meet Sandy who was driving back to New Jersey from visiting her parents. We drove over a day early cause Jon wanted to see you. We drove by your work and all over visiting his friends. At each stop he tried to contact you but had no luck. We ended up parking his car at a park and slept by the river. After a great visit with Dad and Sandy we hopped on an Amtrak heading south. Somewhere in the night, along those rails Jon had the whole lounge car singing Midnight train to Georgia.

Some people may not know that Jon and I decided to get married over a lunch break. We hadn't seen each other in a year and a half and he stopped in when he was transfered from Alabama to Jacksonville. Short conversation later I was putting in my two weeks notice and Jon was showing up with a uhaul to pick myself, Autumn and Jake up . Away we went . It was crazy but it worked . He and I listened to the above song the whole way here while he held my hand and listened to the cassette . I do believe we still have that here somewhere . When I told Madison about this she played it for me today and it broke my heart . I cried many many tears listening to it over and over but I'll always remember that six hour drive for sure . Missing him so much right now.

Back during the days Alisa mentioned, Jon's dad had a marina up on Pickwick Lake. Jon would take us out on boats, huge boats. Not sure who they belonged to. One time we had a Toga party (like in the movie Animal House) on one of those huge houseboats. There are pictures of that somewhere if I could only find them. Jon was a great friend to many of us here in Corinth MS during our high school days.

 Being a Most Beautiful daughter, I know Jon treasured You dearly! He loved family and Treasured his friendships with many! We used to play going to the Moon with several friends in Joy's den after school! if everyone wasn't there, all was at the Marina! Oh Lord! FUN FUN FUN! We played hide and seek and other stupid games. There was a nightman there we used to terrorize. He was the only one in charge, and as young as we all were...it was our mission to play jokes on him after dark. You have to understand, during those times, we went as friends in two cars. I mean lots of us had a ball together, friends! Back then, 1978-79, times were so easy! We just went everywhere, never hurting anyone. Laughing and riding back roads after school listening to Pink Floyd....so many great groups at that time.! I promise, Jon was a great kindhearted young man at that time and soo Happy he left here knowing he had a lovely family! BLess You, Your Mother and family, I am sure Jon will be missed!  I know you don't know me, but I have talked to your dad for the past 16 yrs Monday through Friday 3 to 6 times a day, I never got the privilege to meet him, but my heart is broke not to get to talk to him anymore, I know it's not compared to your heart break, I am so sorry he is gone, I miss talking to him and the conversation we had everyday, it's amazing the connection you can have with someone you have never met, I will forever miss him

Shirley, I am so sorry to read about Jon. There are no perfect words any of us can say but know that so many people are praying for you and your whole family. If there is anything I can do, I am here.

My heart is breaking. I just lost one of my first heroes, my brother Jon . He was everything a big brother should be .

Madison, you have very little idea who I am but your dad and I were about as tight as it gets during our school years, even though we moved apart we stayed in touch just a bit. I knew when you were born, when he got married to your mom and he told me all about his boats and place. Time just slipped by and we never got to visit each others homes but he'll always be in my heart and a part of my life.

 The day of your beautiful wedding I had the honor of talking to your dad shortly after waking you down the aisle and he told me that he is so proud of you and that he loves you more than anything and that you will always be his little girl

 I'm so sorry for your loss Madison May God give you the strength and courage to get through this horrifically difficult time in your life! I can't even imagine what you are going through. Lots of Prayers, Love, Hugs, and Kisses! ❤xx

His positive attitude first thing on a monday morning , his extreme professionalism , and his will to " make it happen " will never be forgotten ! Jon was truly one of a kind ! I am gonna miss seeing him on a weekly basis , driving home from work in his yellow jeep with his sunglassese on and hair blowing in the wind ! What a cool guy ! Love you bro , RIP ! Jon was a Loving, Spirited Young man in our little town of Corinth growing up. He was a friend to everyone he met and was Loved by all of his friends! I am so sorry for your loss and know as far away as we are, we are grieving for Jon, You and Yours.

For the first few years of being Jon's little brother i wasn't sure he liked me but i liked him and always tried to be as close to him as possible.Annoyed by this he would  try to scare me away telling me scary stories. Unfortunately for him it only drew me closer. I remember one time we were riding in the back  Of Dad's El Camino. I'm pretty sure i had thrown a fit to ride in the back with Jon. As we were coming up the hill a large snake crossed the road. Dad ran it over several times but as we drove off we didn't see the snake. Quickly Jon concocted a story of how the snake had wrapped its self around the wheel and was waiting for me to step out of the car. Jon jumped out of the back and started laughing as he saw me hesitate to jump down. As i started to cry he realized he may have taken the joke too far. He came back picked me up and as he carried me in the front door he told me he would never let a snake get me. A few weeks passed  and he got his chance to prove it. I was showing everyone i had learned how to swim when a water moccasin swam up behind me. Dad pulled out a gun and looked for a shot. I hurried from the water with the snake not far behind .Jon grabbed a stick and whacked the snake on the head. Afterward things changed a little between us i still wasn't invited along but he at least stopped trying to scare me away.

A great husband, father and neighbor...Jon, always had a smile on  his face and walking like he was in a hurry. We enjoyed many good talks, especially while working on pool.Was trying so hard to make everything perfect for his family while taking care of both places... Already miss him coming home for lunch and going straight to pool to clean it.. I feel so lucky to know the whole family, and my prayers are with each and every one of you...

I didn't know Jon well ... but consider Shirley a true friend.  He was always a very quiet man, but I knew he loved animals just like me.  He will be missed and my heart goes out to his family

Madison, you wrote a beautiful obituary for your Daddy. I'm a classmate of Jon and he was so very well liked by us all. The CHS class of '79 is a close, tight knit group of friends who love one another. Whenever we get together it feels like 1979 again. Almost as if time never passed. I saw your Daddy at our last reunion and enjoyed hanging with him and we went boating. He loved that so much. He was one of CHS's favorite sons. My heart breaks for you and your family. I have two girls of my own and understand the close bond you must have shared. Your Daddy was a kind and sincere man. Everyone who knew him share your loss.

Madison, I am so sorry that your dad was taken away from you and your mom way too soon.  I am sending love and prayers to you and your mom.

I just wanted to say I feel so lucky to have had such a strong, adventurous, loving, giving daddy as long as I did. I never once doubted how much he loved me.. I could see it in his eyes. He will forever be the smartest and most compassionate soul I've seen.. forever my hero ..

We all loved Jon. We still do. All of our local Aamco Transmissions franchisees did business with him for many many years. He was a man of true integrity. Always reliable, always trustworthy, and a good and decent man. He never had a negative thing to say about anyone. Surely he is with our Father in Heaven. Madison, I'm one of your dad's high school friends. He was so well liked and fun to be around. I can't listen to any Supertramp song without thinking of him. He always had it playing in his car. You, your mom, and the rest of Jon's family have my deepest sympathy. I am so very sorry for your loss.

My deepest condolences in the lose off Jon. We are heart broken and saddened at his passing. We never laid eyes on Jon , but talked to each other several time a week ,he always knew exactly what part we needed and the brand my husband wanted. He will be truly missed .
