He was born on May 26, 1937, in LeRoy, Kansas. JW, a disciplined and reserved man, served in the Navy for 19.6 years, reaching the rank of GMG2, before dedicating 30 years of his life to USPS services. He was a devoted member of Westside Baptist Church and volunteered his time for church events and security. JW had a kind heart and a great sense of humor, often playing pranks on his loved ones. He cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren, sharing cherished memories with them. He was known for his love of coaching baseball, collecting coins, enjoying NASCAR races and camping trips. He is survived by his children, Brian Scammell, Faith Joseph (Scammell), Myra Coshow, and Debbie Irwin, as well as his brothers, Charles, Robert, Kenny, and Tony. JW was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and his sisters Evelyn, Norma Jean, Mary Lou, and Kathy.
Services will be held on April 19, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Hardage Giddens in Jacksonville, FL, with visitation starting at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to 4936 Seaboard Ct, Jacksonville, FL 32210,
