McCORMACK Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com John H. Jack McCormack, Jr., age 84, died on September 8, 2011. A native of Pensacola, Florida, and son of the late Lillian and J. H. McCormack, Sr., he moved to Jacksonville in 1952 and married the former Julia JuJu Armstrong. Jack was a World War II Navy veteran, graduated from Episcopal High School, in Alexandria, Virginia, and Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where he was president of the Kappa Alpha Order. Mr. McCormack was a retired banker, having served as Chairman of the Board of the Atlantic National Bank of Jacksonville, and Senior Vice President/Jacksonville Chairman of First Union National Bank of Florida. For almost 60 years Jack was an active civic volunteer where he was a past President and/or Chairman of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce; the United Way; the Northeast Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross; Jacksonville Tourist & Convention Bureau; Civic Roundtable; Legal Aid Association; St. Vincent's Medical Center Lay Advisory Board; and Timuquana Country Club, where he was a member for 60 years. Mr. McCormack was a former member of the Downtown Development Authority; a former Trustee of Jacksonville University, and a former member of the River Club and Meninak. Statewide Jack was Vice President and Director of the Florida State Chamber of Commerce, a director of the Florida Bankers Association, and was also a long time member of the Association of Reserve City Bankers. He also received the Top Management Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Jacksonville. A few of the honors he received were the Silver Medallion Brotherhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He was a member of the Order of Malta and the Order of the Cornette at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was also an active volunteer at St. Catherine Laboure Manor where once a week he hosted Current Events with Jack, reading the newspaper to the residents. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the doctors and staff at St. Vincent's who have cared for Jack over the last two years. For over fifty years Jack was an active member of St. Matthews Catholic Church. Besides his family and faith, Jack had a lifelong passion for both golf and cards. He was Captain of the Washington & Lee golf team, played in the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst, and was a former Timuquana club champion. Jack was an icon in the 19th Hole at the club, where he enjoyed playing cards with his wonderful friends. Mr. McCormack is survived by his wife of 58 years, JuJu, two sons, John H. McCormack, III (Robin); Vincent A. McCormack (Susan); three daughters: Paula McCormack Rosenbloom (Steve); Julie McCormack Martin (George); and Margaret Sheron McCormack. Also seven grandchildren: Cory, Margaret, and Julia McCormack; Beverly and Stevie Rosenbloom; Emma and Jack McCormack; and two step grandchildren, George Martin, III and Merrill Martin DeCamp. Jack was also predeceased by his sister, Marianna Caldwell, and an infant son, James. On Monday, September 12th, there will be a visitation with the McCormack family at St. Matthews Catholic Church from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., including a vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday, September 13th, following a family graveside service, a memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Matthews Church at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to: St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 1773 Blanding Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32210 or the St. Vincent's Foundation, 1 Shircliff Way, P.O.
