John served his country honorably in the Korean War, while serving in the United States Marine Corp. as a Corporal. He was a distinguished member of the American Legion for over 25 years. John had his own Trucking Company in which he worked with his wife Delores A. Grubbs for over 20 years. He was a charter member of Shindler Baptist Church located in Jacksonville Florida. He was a current member of Bible Baptist Church.
One of John's biggest passions was his love of fishing with his family and friends. From the time John was a young boy growing up in Perry, Florida to his grand old age of 85. Everyone that knew John could remember a fishing trip and the enjoyable time they spent with him.
John was a loving and caring man all his life. He always showed love and compassion to everyone.
John was preceded in death by his Father and Mother Benjamin Grubbs and Minnie Eva Hedgecock Grubbs. His siblings, Myrtice Thomas, William Hilton Grubbs, Winona Nix, Helen Mathis, Annie Rister. John was survived by his widow Delores A. Grubbs, his children Sandra Scroggs (Bob), Belinda Magee (Scott), Dwayne Grubbs(Joann), Melanie Boalch, Lamont Dickey, Scott Dickey, Karen Dickey-Gollie, Tim Dickey (Jeisi). He also was blessed with 32 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. John will be deeply missed by his friends and family and all who knew him.
There will be a viewing from 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm with a Graveside Service to follow for John at 1:00 pm, Monday November 2, 2020 at Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, 32205. Pastor Jay Huddleston will be officiating.
The family will be receiving family and friends following the graveside service at: Shindler Drive Baptist Church, 7100 Shindler Dr., Jacksonville, FL.
